Melatonin Increases Drought Resistance through Regulating the Fine Root and Root Hair Morphology of Wheat Revealed with RhizoPot

چکیده
Melatonin application has obvious improving effects on alleviating the drought-induced inhibition of plant growth. However, root phenotypic dynamics in wheat treated with melatonin remain unknown. This study was conducted using RhizoPot, a novel and improvised situ observation device, three treatments, including normal water condition (CK), drought (Ds, relative content 45–50%), 100 µM treatment under (MT). Results showed that MT effectively improves morphological indicators, (specific root) length, surface area, volume; length density; average diameter plants. Also, inhibitory effect shoot morphology, height, dry weight, net photosynthesis, stomatal aperture leaves, were improved significantly through condition. Life span percent survival fine root, lateral hair at different segments also treatment. Compared those shown CK Ds, contents leaves roots increased, expression levels melatonin-synthesis-related genes (TaCOMT TaTDC) upregulated The findings this may clarify resistance mechanism stress.

Tibetan wild barley is a treasure trove of useful genes for crop improvement including abiotic stress tolerance, like drought. Root hair of single-celled structures plays an important role in water and nutrition uptake. Polyethylene-glycol-induced drought stress hydroponic/petri-dish experiments were performed, where root hair morphology and transcriptional characteristics of two contrasting Ti...
متن کاملDrought resistance of Ailanthus altissima: root hydraulics and water relations.
Drought resistance of Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle is a major factor underlying the impressively wide expansion of this species in Europe and North America. We studied the specific mechanism used by A. altissima to withstand drought by subjecting potted seedlings to four irrigation regimes. At the end of the 13-week treatment period, soil water potential was -0.05 MPa for well-watered co...
متن کاملGTL1 and DF1 regulate root hair growth through transcriptional repression of ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6-LIKE 4 in Arabidopsis
How plants determine the final size of growing cells is an important, yet unresolved, issue. Root hairs provide an excellent model system with which to study this as their final cell size is remarkably constant under constant environmental conditions. Previous studies have demonstrated that a basic helix-loop helix transcription factor ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6-LIKE 4 (RSL4) promotes root hair grow...
متن کاملThrough form to function: root hair development and nutrient uptake.
Root hairs project from the surface of the root to aid nutrient and water uptake and to anchor the plant in the soil. Their formation involves the precise control of cell fate and localized cell growth. We are now beginning to unravel the complexities of the molecular interactions that underlie this developmental regulation. In addition, after years of speculation, nutrient transport by root ha...
